The Legend of Daedalus and Icarus:
The origins Like most Greek myths this tale was handed down orally but later when committed to paper contained different versions. The very first interpretation of this story was by Diodorus Siculus who wrote between 60 and 30 BCE and annexed this myth in The Library of History, a chronicle in forty books of the history of Greece, Rome, India, and Egypt. Stories of Daedalus were narrated by Apollodorus (ca.180 - 120 BC), a Greek scholar, historian and grammarian and later the Roman poet Virgil (70-19BC) briefly mentioned this character in his Aeneid. Ovid (43 BC- 17AD), also a Roman poet wrote a much longer and a more poetic account in "The Metaphorphoses" (8CE). Two centuries later in 160 CE, the Greek geographer Pausianas included the myth in his Descriptions of Greece.
